ST. JAMES
“PAT HANNA’S DIGGERS’’
Pat Hanna’s perennially-popular Diggers are putting on an exceptionally good show for their fourth and last change at the St. James Theatre. Although their season has been brief, they have introduced an enormous number of new songs and sketches to Aucklanders, and they will bo sorely missed. The success of this week’s programme depends rather more upon the musical items than upon the playlets, and many and beautiful are the songs given by Adele Taylor, Iza Crossley, Jessie and Hilda Meadows, Ernest j Kopke, Jock Thomson, Chris. Kilner and Norman French. The two most outstanding items are the duet by Adele Taylor and Ernest : Kopke, "All Gods’ Chillun Got Shoes," and an item by Joe Valli’s’ home-made j jazz band. But although the musical side is to j the fore, the humorous side is by no ! means neglected. The Digger’s dream J of what the front line should be like, with sergeant-majors bringing up j coffee, and all home comforts, is very i entertaining, blit too good a dream to j be true. Pat Hanna and Joe Valli shine in these little sketches. In the other playlets Iza Crossley. Stan Lawson and Norman French are seen to advantage. This week the j dancing is very good, particularly the j Dance of the Circus Ponies. The Diggers’ season will conclude oil Wednesday evening.
