FAITH AND LIFE
SEEKING AFTER GOD COMMUNITY MISSION ADDRESS Faith is not another name for credulity—a readiness to believe a statement or a creed simply because it is presented to us by some authority. Faith is an affirmation that the highest capacities in our nature are not founded upon a delusion, and an act of committal to the adventure of living a life «>f fellowship with God and man.” With these words the Rev. George Jackson, speaking at the Community Mission in the Zealandia Hall. Dominion Road, last evening, prefaced his addi*es3. He said that any revelation from God could not be arbitrary or mechanical. If God existed, and sought to reveal Himself to man. an essential condition of that revelation was that man should make the venture of seeking after God. Revelation implied a readiness to receive, and faith was the spirit of adventure that hazarded the life upon the conviction that the “Ultimate Reality of the Universe” was a God whose character and purpose were what Jesus had declared them to be.
The acceptance of such a faith had far-reaching social implications. and men of faith were needed who, instead ol calling the world evil and turning to religion as a way of escape, would rather face all the facts and commit their lives to the challenging task of building a better world order based on justice and fraternity. During the service solos were given bv Miss L. McCready and by Mr. wallbank. The Mission Orchestra contributed a short programme of special music, and an open forum for free discussron was also held.
