LIVERPOOL TO TIMARU. —Cargo for discharge at Timaru will now be brought from Liverpool by the Federal Company’s steamer Hertford. The vessel will leave Liverpool on June 22 for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin.
LIVERPOOL TO NEW PLYMOUTH. — Cargo for discharge at New Plymouth will now be brought from Liverpool by the Federal Company’s steamer Papanui. The vessel will leave Liverpool on August 3 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth.
RUAHINE LEAVES HOME.—Advice has been received by tlie local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company that the liner Ruahine, after loading at London, left Southampton yesterday for Wellington and Auckland. She is expected to arrive at Wellington on July 19 and at Auckland a week later.
SOUTHERN CROSS SAILED.—After being delayed in port since May 8, when she returned from Norfolk Island for repairs to her rudder, the Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross resumed her voyage to Norfolk Island, New Hebrides and Solomon Islands yesterday afternoon. She is scheduled to return from the cruise on September 0.
THE CITY OF SALISBURY. —En route from New York to New Zealand, the Ellerman-Bucknall steamer City of Salisbury, under charter to the A. and A. Line, is reported to have reached Colon last Wednesday. The vessel lias cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on July 10. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent.
MISUSE OF THE DISTRESS SIGNAL. —Attention has been drawn to difficulties which arc being experienced through the misuse of the distress signal by vessels which, though not in imminent danger, have utilised the S.O.S. signal for the purpose of obtaining tugs or other assistance. A notice issued by the Board of Trade, London, on March 14, 3 929, states that the use of the distress signal 5.0.5., except in cases of imminent danger, in which immediate assistance Is necessary, may result in insufficient attention being paid to really urgent calls, in the belief that they are sent out by vessels not In any real danger. Where the transmission of the distress signal is not fully justified, use should be made of the urgency signal (XXX). This signal has priority over all other communications except distress, and should "be quite sufficient for the purpose of obtaining assistance by means of tugs, etc.
MARAMA LEAVES SYDNEY. —According to cable advice received by the local office of the Union Company, the intercolonial passenger steamer Marama left Sydney at 3 p.m. yesterday for Auckland, where she is due on Tuesday next.
PAUA TODAY. —The Shell Company advises that the tanker Paua was to be dispatched for Napier at 1 p.m. today. She will discharge bitumen and bulk spirit from Auckland at the East Coast port.
WAIPAHI WITH FRUIT. —Due at Auckland on Tuesday from the Cook Islands, the Union Company’s Island fruit steamer Waipahi is scheduled to leave here on her return trip to Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu, Mauke and Mangaia on June 27.
THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. The Canadian National Steamships have been notified by cable that the Canadian Challenger arrived at Panama on Saturday from Auckland, bound for New York, Boston and Montreal. The vessel sailed from Auckland on May 11.
PORT NICHOLSON DELAYED. —The C. anu D. Line advises that the steamer Port Nicholson, which arrived at Wellington this morning from New Plymouth, completes loading there, _ and sails next Wednesday for London via Panama. The vessel was originally scheduled to clear Wellington on Monday.
CANADIAN TRANSPORTER’S DEPARTURE. —Now discharging her Canadian cargo at Southern ports, the Canadian National Steamship's vessel, Canadian Transporter, is to load later and is to be dispatched finally for New York, Boston and Montreal from Auckland in the first week in July.
YOSERIC REPORTS AGAIN.—A further radio message received by Spedding, Limited, states that Andrew Weir’s steamer Yoseric is now expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland on Monday morning from Galveston, Texas. The vessel is eii route to Australian ports with sulphur, and is to bunker here before proceeding to Australia.
AORANGI DUE MONDAY. —Due at Auckland at noon on Monday from Vancouver and way ports, the Union Company’s R.M.M.S. Aorangi, will, after pratique has been granted, berth at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. At noon on Tuesday she leaves Auckland for Sydney, where, on arrival, she will withdraw from the Vancouver service to undergo her overhaul and survey.
MAILS ARRIVING.—The acting chief postmaster advises that the R.M.S. Maunganui, due at Wellington on Monday, June 17, has 46 bags of English, Australian and Eastern letter mail for Auckland. This mail should arrive here by the main trunk on Tuesday, June 18. The S.S. Marama, due at. Auckland on Tuesday, June 18, has 320 bags of English, Australian and Eastern mail for this city.
TARANAKI DELAYED.—Efforts are being made to dispatch the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s motor-ship Taranaki from Gisborne on Monday evening for Auckland, where she is expected on Tuesdav evening, to complete her loading for Home. She will berth at the Central Wharf. In the meantime the vessel is to be dispatched from Auckland next Saturday for London, via Panama. L. D. Nathan and Company will act as the local agents.
CORINTH 1C ARRIVES. —The White Star liner Corinthic arrived at Auckland this morning from Wellington and berthed at the Prince’s Wharf to complete her discharge of London cargo and to commence loading for her return trip to Home. It is hoped to dispatch the liner next Friday for Port Chalmers, thence Timaru. Lyttelton and Wellington to fill up. She is scheduled to sail finally from Wellington on July G for Southampton and London, via Panama. L. D. Nathan and Company are the local agents.

REMUERA COMPLETING—The New Zealand shipping: Company’s liner Remuera arrived at Wellington this morning from Lyttelton.
