TE AROHA TOPICS

l c RAIN HINDERS TRAINING ! l (Sp ecial to TH E S UX) TE AKOHA, Friday. j Although counted among the vete- - rails. Some Fashion is looking remark- i ably well, and is showing the benefit \ of the work he is being set. He will i be among the follow*e.rs at the hunt meet near Te Aroha this month, and there is no reason why he should not jump any reasonable fences. j Sir Russell’s trainer, John Wallace, i is arranging a lease of the chestnut gelding. Apparently he is in no way dismayed at the form shown by the • Archiestown representative of late, and in a spirit of “hope for the best” is willing and perhaps anxious to try him out still further. Mr. John Harks, of Shaftesbury, is keeping the Marble Arch mare Flitter ' in work. She has her full share of 1 speed, but for some time was somewhat of the highly mettled order. She seems to be settling down, and the owner’s perseverance may yet be suitably rewarded. Mr. L. Lipsey is keeping Grand Arch 1 and Muskot in st<i&dy work, and both

look really well cared for. They may not be raced until the Avondale spring meeting, by which time their racing condition should be pretty right. C. Mallowes will have an addition to his string next week, as Master Labour is booked for a box. Bert Hinkler has not done much fast work, but looks ready for it when called upon. The King George Handicap winner Lucy Rose, is to be wintered at Waihou for at least a couple of months, lie will bo fed and also housed at night in inclement weather, and so will rejoin the track workers in the spring in good heart. The Trentham Trip King Lu and Queen Arch are looking really well after their Ellerslie racing. Owing to wet -weather ruling, most of this week they are both on the easy list. Whether their owner will take on the Wellington meeting (entries for which close on Monday) with the pair has not yet been definitely decided. The General Latour filly lately in charge of C. E. Mallowes, has gone over to Pokeno, where she will be a member of the stable presided over

by trainer Cronin. Her box at Mai- i lowes will probably be occupied shortly by one of the same strain, Master Latour. i Mr. A. J. Monds, owner of Marble • King, is in no way despondent over i the Marble Arch gelding's performk ances at Ellerslie recently. lie is being kept at work with a view to rac- ! ing at Avondale in September. A. E. Cox put Ah Wera into work again this week,, and other than a big • mark on a foreleg gained in his winning race at the Oliinemuri meeting, ' looks really well. He and The Lamb will now be schooled together over the jumps, and when the pace is on the bouts will doubtless please the onlookers. Crown Arch could not be taken to • Ellerslie on account of lameness. He • has completely thrown this off and is 1 doing steady work. Glenstar is looking very robust, but will be ready to > take his place with the colours up ’ early in the coming spring. Consequent upon the copious rain for some days, the local race tracks i were on the damp side on Thursday, j The work, therefore, was done on ' other portions of the course propertv, and consisted mostly of serviceable • tasks. Sir Bussell, Ah Wera. The - Lamb, Unique, Belle Star, Lucky g Alice, Glen Albyn filly, Glenstar, t Crown Arch and Bert Hinkler all went 5 well in tasks of half to threequarter 8 pace.
