PERSONAL—En route from London with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth, the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Hororata is now under the command of Captain C. Mathews, vice Captain W. Barnett. The Hororata is due here on July S. The following candidates were successful in the examinations conducted by the Marine Department at Auckland which concluded yesterday; Mr. J. B. Gibson, Union Steam Ship Company. Ltd., foreign-going master; Mr. A. YV. Lip,sI'ombe, unattached, special-going second mate, with pass in special signal te«t; Mr. R. S. Cameron. Auckland division R.X.Y.R.. yacht-master in New Zealand waL«s; Mr. J. F. Lidgard, unattached, home-trade master (under 25 tons). All wore pupils of the Richmond Nautical School. The Maunganui, which will enter the .San Francisco service at Sydney this week, is in command of Captain YV. Martin. His deck officers are the following: Chief, Mr. N. J. Siepen; second, Mr. YY.
