DUFTY CASE DISCUSSED TRANSFER TO ELLERSLIE At last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Rugby League C. Dufty was granted a transfer from the Newton to the Ellerslie Club. The discussion leading up to the decision to grant the transfer was taken in strict committee and, contrary to the usual procedure, the Press was sent from the room. A LETTER from the Newton Club ***■ dealing- with the cancellation of the registration of Dufty as a member of the club was read, but when the meeting- was about to deal with an application for Dufty’s transfer to Ellerslie, Mr. F. Foster asked for the suspension of orders. The suggestion that the correspondence from the Newton Club should be dealt with in committee was .strongly opposed by Mr. W. J. Davidson, who held that it was only the League’s duty to make known the whole story to its patrons. The secretary, Mr. I. Culpan, said that the advisory committee had discussed the Newton Club’s letter, and suggested that in dealing with it the League should go into committee. Mr. W. J. Davidson remarked that if the meeting did go into committee it would not be necessary for the Press to leave the room. To this Mr. Longbottom disapproved. Thus, when the suggestion to go into committee was adopted, the pressmen were sent from the room to pass the time in a corridor. At the conclusion of the meeting the chairman, Mr. G. Rhodes, stated that the Auckland Rugby League had granted Dufty’s transfer to Ellerslie.
