TIVOLI AND EVERYBODY'S
“WHY BE GOOD?” America’s care-free, unchaperoned youth, super-sophisticated and scornful of propriety, is colourfully pictured in “Why Be Good?” in which Colleen Moore plays the stellar role, which will be screened at the Tivoli and Everybody’s Theatres this evening. The story of this comedy-drama is of the type that first carried Miss Moore to the heights of popularity, although the plot is decidedly original, and the characterisations of the most up-to-date variety. Miss Moore appears as a typical example of the modern girl, her costumes and personality being the last word, and her speech full of flippant wise-cracks. Although the story of “Why Be Good?” is essentially humourous, there
are moments of serious drama interspersed with the frivolous episodes, the question propounded in the title being answered in a dramatic climax that is said to equal the finest work Miss Moore has ever contributed to the screen.
Neil Hamilton, in the chief supporting role, is seen as Miss Moore’s leading man for the first time, while others playing important roles are Bodil Rosing, Edward Martindel and Louis Natheaux. Hoot Gibson is the star of the second feature, “King of the Rodeo,” which was filmed when the big American rodeo at Chicago was in progress. Gibson is seen as a Montana youth who becomes hero* of the rodeo through his courage and skill. The events, as they were actually run off, with world championship cowboys competing, are a part of the story. Gibson is shown competing with them, and in many instances outdoing in daring the feats of the professional exhibition cowpunchers.
Henry B. Wrathall will again be seen in a Fox production. This famous old veteran of the screen will have the part of the broken-down surgeon in George B. Seitz’s masterpiece of drama in the South Seas, “Black Magic.” Josephine Dunn, Earle Foxe, Ivan Linow and Sheldon Lewis are also in the cast. This picture was formerly titled “Cape Smoke.”
