WEST COAST WELCOME

SUCCESSFUL REUNION NEW ASSOCIATION’S AIMS The hospitality and sociability that forms a striking feature of the home life of the people in “Seddon’s Own Country” was the predominant factor that made the West Coasters’ reunion an unqualified success last evening. JQESPITE the inclemency of the weather there was a large attendance at St. Benedict’s Hall on the occasion of the social function promoted by the recently-formed West Coasters’ Association. Dancing, to sparkling music supplied by Morrow’s Orchestra, and under the directorship of Mr. Jack Thurlow, provided the chief attraction, while non-dancers played cards. Prizes in this section were won by Mrs. W. Saddler (Ivumara) and Mr. W. Witham (Westport). During the evening President F. Schramm extended a hearty Coast welcome to all present, and outlined the future social intentions of the organisation, which, he said, was now established on sound lines and -would in time reach the high standard set by the sister association in AVellington.

Musical items were rendered by Mr. Bert Gear and Mr. J. Lonergan, and Mi’. C. E. Craig gave a recitation. A special item and one well received was a Spanish dance in costume b3 r the Misses Mills, pupils of Miss Beresford. Supper on a lavish scale was provided by the women’s executive of the association, and an enjoyable and successful function was brought to a conclusion at midnight, all present expressing the hope that a similar reunion would be held again in the near future.
