PERSONAL.—Advice lias been received in Auckland that Captain J. D. Roop, master in the Canadian National Steamship’s service, died suddenly at Halifax at the end of April. He was in good health in the afternoon, but collapsed and died after dinner in the evening. Captain Roop visited Auckland on a number of occasions, the last time when in command of the Canadian Transporter about a year ago. TOFUA SAILS SATURDAY.—At 11 a.m. on Saturday the Union Company’s Island passenger steamer Tofua is scheduled to leave Auckland on her monthly trip to Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. AORANGI DUE SUNDAY.—Due at Auckland on Sunday evening from Vancouver and way ports the local office of the Union Company has announced the R.M.M.S. Aorangi to sail again at 11 p.m. on Monday for Sydney. SOUTHERN CROSS SAILS FRIDAY. —The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross, having shipped her rudder again, is now announced to resume her interrupted trip round ’ the Island mission stations on Friday. CARGO FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIA.— The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the steamer Kurow is to load at Edithburg early next week, thence Wallaroo and Melbourne, for New Zealand ports, including Auckland. CARGO FROM HOBART.—Advice has been received by the local of ice of the Union Company that the steamer Kaiapoi has been fixed to load at Hobart toward the end of June for Bluff. Dunedin, Lyttelton. Wellington and Auckland. OTOKIA SAILING.—The local office of the Union Company advises that the tanker Otokia, which was docked for cleaning and painting, leaves Auckland this evening for San Luis, California, where she loads another cargo of fuel oil for the company’s tanks at Miramar. CANADIAN TRANSPORTER SAILING —The local office of the Canadian National Steamships advises that the Canadian Transporter is to be dispatched for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin to continue discharging her cargo from Montreal at a late hour this evening. AWAHOU TO SURVEY.—Advice from Messrs. Watkins and Wallace states that the Richardson steamer Awahou is to go on the slip on Monday next to undergo her annual overhaul and survey. Her place on the East Coast service is to be taken by the Mako, which arrives here on Friday night. BRITISH GLORY LEAVES SAN PEDRO.—The Union Company has received cabled advice that the tanker British Glory left San Pedro last Thursday for Wellington. The vessel brings a cargo of fuel-oil for discharge into the company’s tanks at Miramar, and is due at Wellington on July 2, WAIHEMO LEAVES LOS ANGELES. —Cabled news has been received by the Union Company that the Waihemo left Los Angeles on {Saturday, with Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff and New Plvmoutlh She is due at Napier ni) July SYDNEY STEAMERS. —The Ulimaroa leaves Auckland at 11 a.m. on Fridav for Sydney and is due there next Tuesday. The Maunganui clears Sydney tomorrow for Wellington and is due oh Monday. The Marama, due at Sydney this afternoon from Auckland, sails at 3 p.m. on Fridayfor Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday. MATAKANA TO COMPLETE.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the Matakana left Gisborne last evening for Wellington, where she is due this afternoon, to 011 up. She is to sail from there finally at 5 p.m. next Saturday foi' London, Avonmouth. Glasgow and Liverpool, via Montevideo and Teneriffe: THE CITY OF SALISBURY.— The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company has been notified by cable that the A. and A. Line chartered steamer, City of Salisbury, en route from New York, left Newport News last Thursdav with general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lvttelton and Dunedin. HARDWOOD FROM AUSTRALIA. The Norwegian motor-ship Brand, which was at Auckland in July, 1927. is loading hardwood in Western Australia for New Zealand.

PA U A SAILS SATURDAY.—The Shell Company’s tanker Paua, at present at Western Wharf, is to be dispatched for Napier at noon on Saturday, where she will unload cargo from this port.

GOLD SHELL DE PA RTS. Having completed her discharge of oil. the Dutch tanker Gold Shell left Auckland early this morning for Sourabaya, where she loads again for probably New Zealand ports.

MELBOURNE SERVICE. Due at Wellington on Friday morning from Melbourne, via Bluff, Dunedin and Lyttelton, the Union Company advises that the passenger steamer Manuka sails again at 1 p.m. on Saturday for Melbourne direct.

CANADIAN CHALLENGER REPORTED.—The Canadian Challenger, en route from New Zealand to New York. Boston and Montreal, is reported to have reached Panama last Sunday. She sailed from Auckland on May 11. RIMUTAKA HOME. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the liner Rimutaka reached Southampton from New Zealand last Sundav. She sailed from Wellington, via La« Palmas, on April 25.

PORT NICHOLSON TO FILL UP. The C. and D. Line advises that the steamer Port Nicholson leaves New Plvmouth tonight for Wellington, where she coin pie tes her loading and sails finally at 5 p.m. next Monday for London, via Montevideo.

THE BARON PENTLAND. The steamer Baron Pentland is reported to have sailed from Iquique, Chile, on May 2i with a nitrate cargo for discharge at Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. She is expected at Auckland about the end of this month. PHOSPHATES FROM OCEAN ISA N D.—Advice has been received by Henderson and Macfarlane that the steamer Tasmanian Transport left Ocean Island on June S with phosphates for discharge at Auckland. New Plymouth and Wanganui. She is expected to arrive here on June 20.

RUAPEHU LOADING.—Now loading at New Plymouth, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Ruapehu leaves tomorrow for Wanganui, thence Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington, to complete. The vessel is scheduled to clear Wellington finally on June 25 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

REMUERA’S MOVEMENTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the liner Remucra leaves Lyttelton this evening for Wellington, where she is clue tomorrow to complete her loading for Home. She is scheduled to sail finallv from Wellington on June 22 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

FLOWERGATE'S MOVEMENTS. Henderson and Macfarlane advises that the steamer Flowergate, at present discharging phosphates from Nauru Island at the King’s Wharf, sails from Auckland next Tuesday for Westport for bunkers before returning to the Islands to load again for New Zealand or Australia.
