PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

An application from the Passenger Transport Company was considered at last night’s meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board for the allocation of a bus stop in the vicinity of the junction of Shirley and Station Roads. The traffic inspecror reported that he did not approve of the proposed site on account of the bend in the roads. If a bus stop were considered necessary, he recommended that a stop be allotted at the eastern end of Timewell’s Buildings. This was agreed to. On the recommendation of the engineer, the roads on the Bryant, McCullough and Wallace subdivision were accepted for dedication.

The clerk was authorised to recommend to the Management Committee of the band that they make a donation of £2 2s to the secretary. On the recommendation of the Works Committee, Mr. D. B. Cx-uickshank was appointed ranger.

The clerk reported that the general fund account was in debit £2.353 7s sd. In terms of his notice of motion, Mr. W. J. Nicholson moved that the general consolidated rate be 61d in the £ on the unimproved rateable value. Speaking to the motion, the chairman. Mr. T. R. Smvtheman, said that Papatoetoe was at present one of the lowest rated districts in Auckland. Tbe slight increase shown was practically wliolely due to the water scheme at present under way. The motion was carried.

It was decided to grant a rebate of 5 per cent, on all rates paid within CO days of the issue of the rate notices.

Estimates, as submitted by the Works Committee, totalled £ 1,500. Estimated road work accounted for £ 651 9s lOd. storm-water drainage £ 187. footpaths £ 515 7s, permanent levels £OO. contingencies approximately £BO.
