POWER BOARD BEACON
PROPOSED TOWER LIGHT ON NEW BUILDING INQUIRIES TO BE MADE “It will be a good advertisement for the extravagance of the board," said Mr. F. M. Waters at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Electric-Power Board. Mr. W. V. Holdsworth presided. The remark arose out of the consideration of a suggestion advanced by the architects and submitted in a report by the general manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley, that a revolving light be placed on top of the board’s new offices now being built in Oueen Street. The cost was estimated at £350.
“It would be an outstanding landmark," said Mr. Holdsworth. “It would be visible from all over Auckland." Mr. S. J. Harbutt: It’s a good idea. We should find out from the Marine Department and the City Council what regulations govern the erection of such a light. Mr. E. H. Potter: I think that a lighting arrangement on the front of the building would be better. Mr. Holdsworth: That has been attended to. Mr. Potter said the matter should stand over. Mr. M. J. Bennett: It would be a good advertisement for both the building and the board. We’re going to have the last word in a building and the last word in lifts. Let’s have the last word in lights. Mr. Waters said it would be a good advertisement for the extravagance of the board.
It was decided to approach the City Council and the Marine Department and ascertain the roir,.i«'^ n3 governing the erection of the light.
