ADVICE FOR COUNCIL

HELP FROM WORKERS DECISION AT CHRISTCHURCH Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Alonday. The Christchurch City Council tonight agreed to the following motion, proposed by Mr. H. T. Armstrong: “That a representative of the w'orkers employed in the departments under the jurisdiction of the Works, Electricity and Reserves Committees be associated with those committees in a purely advisory capacity, in the same way as the representatives of the master butchers and milk vendors are associated with the committees of the council; the giving effect to this motion to be deferred until the committees named have reported recommending the terms and conditions under which the appointment of such associates shall be made; it being understood, however, that the work of the associated members shall be confined to the discussion of such matters as specially affect the interests of the workers represented.”

The resolution was supported by all the Labour members of the council and vigorously opposed by the nonLabour members, with the exception of the independent member, Dr. H. T. J. Thacker. No division was called for, the motion being carried on the voices.
