KILLED BY BUS
INQUEST AT PETONE RAIN CAUSES ACCIDENT Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. At an inquest held at Petone into the death of William Henry Davies, who was knocked down and killed by a railway bus at Petone on the evening of May 27, the bus-driver stated he had a bad view of the road as his windscreen was wet from the rain that had fallen a short time previously and a street light was glaring on it. He saw Davies when the latter was about 12 feet from the bus. He immediately applied his brakes, but the bus struck the man. A passenger in the bus stated a saloon car passed the bqs just before the moment of impact. It appeared as though Davies, in trying to avoid the car, stepped in front of the bus. A verdict that Davies died from a fractured skull received in a collision with a motor-bus driven by Frederick George Goss, was turned.
