FASTER TRAIN SERVICE
AUCKLAND TO FRANKTON NEW SIGNALLING SYSTEM By the end of this month the whole of the railway line between Auckland and Frankton Junction will be fitted with the automatic three-colour light signalling apparatus. YpHE last section, Mercer to Frankton Junction, is being completed at present. Railway officials had hoped to have the apparatus ready for June 23, when the new timetable comes into operation, but this cannot be done. It is not expected that the HorituFrankton duplication will be ready for June 23, but trains will be running over it by the end of this month. With the duplication and the signalling apparatus both in operation there will be fewer delays on the run between Auckland and Frankton Junction. Extra crossings have also been arranged. In the past delays have been caused by the late running of goods trains over the single track with the result that passenger trains have had to wait frequently at stations until the line is clear.
