MUNICIPAL BAND
The Auckland Municipal Band presented a good programme of music at the Zoological Park yesterday afternoon. The programme included: March, “The Champion" (Graham); overture, William Tell” (Rossini), Slavonic Hance No. 3 (Dvorak); tone poem. “Finlandia” (Sibelius): march triumphant, “The London Scottish ' (Hainesj: selection. “Preciosa” (Weber) entr’acte. “The Valley of Poppies” (Ancliffe); march, “Strike Sure” (Graham). A cornet solo “Souvenir de Valence” (Bleger) by Mr. Fred Bowes, and a piccolo solo, “The Marion” (Allen), by Mr. Hal C. McLennan, were also rendered.
Many of the scenes of the Paramount all-talking picture. “The Carnation Kid.” which stars Douglas Mac Lean. were filmed in a busy city street. The roar of the traffic and all street noises have been reproduced with remarkable accuracy.
