“THE CANARY MURDER CASE”

AUTHOR OF MYSTERY TO BE SEEN S. S. Van Dine, the mysterious author of the most successful series of detective stories in modern fiction history, who thus far has shielded his identity behind his nom de plume, was persuaded by Paramount officials to appear before a motion picture camera. Van Dine is seen on the screen for the first time in "The Canary Murder Ciise,” his famed mystery story which, with full talking sequences, will show at the Strand Theatre next Friday. At first, loath to give the world at large an opportunity to discover his identity, the author, whose name ha.s become a byword in the world of books through his detective stories during the last three years, finally consented to step in front of the camera lens. shown on the screen will not be revealed. However, he has famous companions, for the cast of "The Canary Alurder Case" includes William Powell, as Philo Vance, the super - detective; Louise Brooks, James ITall, Jean Arthur, Charles

CHARITY CONCERT TOWN HALL THIS EVENING Tlje big charity concert in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, will be given in the Town Hall this evening, commencing at 8 p.m. A long list of outstanding performers will appear, including Theo Halpin, Lynda Murphy, Vida Nelson, Sara Stackpole, Mrs. J. J. Sullivan. Roy Dormer. Dan Flood, Ronald Muston, Owen Pritchard, Reg Richards, Rex Yates and Frank Sutherland, also the Five Whitteys, and Clyde Howley’s Famous Internationals. The funds of the St. Vincent de Paul Society are devoted to relieving distress among the poor of the city.
