TAKAPUNA CLUB
The Takapuna Plate and the Wynyard Plate, to be run, respectively, at the spring and summer meetings of the Takapuna Jockey Club next season, are a brace of events in next season's racing at Devonport. Both races are fbr now two-year-olds and upward. Each event carries prize-money to the amount of £420, with a gold cup for each race of the value of £BO. The distances of the respective races are seven furlongs. Nominations close next Friday, June 14, at 5 p.m., with the secretary, Mr. F. D. McVay. District Committee Re-elected The election of members represent the country clubs on the Auckland District Committee resulted in the return of the Hon. E. W. Alison and Messrs. Donald McLeod, L. W. Nelson, H. Rothery and K. J. Rennie, who were the retiring members. Splendid Entries Entries closed yesterday for the Avondale Stakes, 1929, Avondale Guineas. 1930, and the All Aged Stakes, 1930, and the secretary, Mr. A. J. Farquhar, had the pleasure of compiling very satisfactory lists, an increase all round being reported. The following are the numbers entered for the events mentioned, with the numbers for last year shown in parentheses:—Avondale Stakes, 93 (77); Avondale Guineas, 142 (120); All Aged Stakes, 123 (120). For Australia A big team of horses left by the Maunganui yesterday from Wellington for Sydney. Mr. R. J. Murphy’s team of half-a-dozen comprised the following:—Oratrix, Cimabue, Concentrate, Royal Duke, Oral, colt rising 2yrs by Chief Ruler —Martianelle. Mr. W. Higgins’s quartet numbered the following: Joy Bird, Kilbronsyth, Catuna, Sneerer. The two-year-old filly Gay Ballerina (by Lord Quex —Lady Ball), who was bought by the Sydney sportsman, Mr. H. G. Kirkpatrick, in March last for 2,ooogns, and who won three of the four races she contested under his colours, was included with the collpction»shipped by the Maunganui. It is expected that G. Paul will leave here in a fortnight for Australia with Aussie and Papatu. The former may contest the King’s Cup at Brisbane in August. New Owners The new owner of Catonian is Mrs. S. L. Parsons, of Wanganui, who also races Vaucluse. Catonian will join up with H. L. Russell's string at Te Awamutu. Brilliant Light has been sold by J. T. Jamieson to a Southern owner, future be trained by J. P. Coyle at and the Australian Sun gelding will in Awapuni.
