The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, left for the South, last evening by the Limited.
Captain Boyle, of the GovernorGeneral’s personal staff, left for Wellington by the Limited last evening.
The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. Leader of the Opposition, left for Wellington on his way to Dunedin by last evening’s Limited.
The Hon. J. B. Donald, PostmasterGeneral, is confined to his bed with an attack of influenza. He was to have accompanied the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, to Rotorua.
Mr. William Tam, a foreman at Otahuhu Workshops, has been promoted to the position of car and wagon inspector at Wanganui and will leaye shortly to take up his new duties.
His Honour Sir Alexander Herd ma n ■will leave for Hamilton tomorrow to preside over the criminal session of the Supreme Court, which opens there on Tuesday. Mr. Justice Blair will arrive from the South tomorrow to take his place on the Auckland Bench next week.
The institution of Canon Percival James. Vicar of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell, as successor to Archdeacon A. M. Johnson at St. Paul’s ProCathedral, will be performed by the Bishop of Wellington, Dr. T. H. Sprott, on June 30.
Mr. E. Douglas Tayler, Director of Music in Schools, accompanied by his wife and family, will leave by the Port Nicholson on June 18 for England. Mr. Tayler will represent the Education Department at the first Anglo-American Music Conference, to he held at Lausanne from August 2 to 9.
Mr. H. C. Whyman, Auckland superintendent of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. Ltd., who was recently appointed inspector for New Zealand, was presented with a travelling rug by Mr. H. N. Hunt, the Auckland manager, on behalf of the local staff. yesterday. Mr. Hunt congratulated Mr. Whyman on his promotion.
The Hon. H. Atmere, Minister of Education, received deputations this morning and visited the Blind Institute, where he addressed the inmates. Tomorrow he will attend the laying of the foundation stone of the Roman Catholic school at Te Aroha. On Monday he will commence a tour of North Auckland. In the absence on public business in Wellington and the South Island of the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, member for the district, the Minister will be accompanied through the Kaipara electorate by the Hon.
