WOOLLEN GOODS SEET OVERSEAS COMPETITION
For some time past New Zealand woollen goods, manufactured in the local mills from New Zealand-grown wool, have been increasing in popularity at the expense of imported goods. This applies particularly to hosiery and underwear. Ross and Glendining. Ltd., are now' putting such a large range on the market that all classes of the ppblic are served without the necessity for them going to the overseas markets.
In flannels, both for frocks and college shirts, many of the large businesses throughout New Zealand have ceased ordering from England, preferring the New Zealand article both for price and wearing quality. In men’s suits and trousers, New' Zealand materials more than hold their own against the imported article, as evidenced in the large yardage cut up in the various factories.
The Auckland clothing factory of Ross and Glendining. Ltd., uses Roslyn materials exclusively for all the different classes of clothing made in that factory. During the last two or three years Roslyn serges have more than held their own in the large contracts placed for the making up of different kinds of uniforms for various services and organisations throughout the Dominion. In practically every case these contracts have been secured in the face of strong competition from the English serge manufacturer who previously had largely a monopoly.
