BEEF-BREEDING INDUSTRY

BETTER TIMES AHEAD Authorities affirm that the Argentine has reached the limits of its beef production (states "Country Life” of Australia). That the United States will import large quantities of meat seems inevitable. It is forecast that unless Australia materially increases its beef production, there will be no surplus for export in another 15 years. What meaning has all this to the beef cattle industry? Taking the long view, it is encouraging to cattlemen. Messrs. Gibson Bros., of Buenos Aires, recognised world authorities in the Argentine cattle breeding business, said: "It is the general opinion in stockbreeding circles in this country (Argentine) that we have reached and passed the maximum of our beefexporting capacity.” They add that “it would see that the English cattlebreeder has seen the worst days of Argentine competition.” Likewise the Australian breeder and fattener? Mr. Hoover, just before he became President this year, said that the United States will become a large purchaser of Argentine meat “probably within three years.” The new tari may retard developments for a while, but it will not stoy them. The American consumers will demand meat!
