AIR SERVICES PLANNED
Auckland to Christchurch
THREE 10-PASSENGER PLANES
Company Being Formed in City
BEFORE very long. it is understood. New Zealand will have two regular passenger air services, two companies operating 10-passenger planes similar to those on the Croydon-Paris run abroad between Auckland and Christchurch, and Wellington and Christchurch, respectively.
A company is in process of formation in Auckland, and it is said that much of the capital necessary is already raised. Three airplanes are expected to be used at first, running a daily service to and from Auckland, with one machine in reserve. The preliminary prospectus of a company to operate a WellingtonChristchurch service should he shortly released.
There are several new fields of trade in these ventures, and one of them may reasonably be expected to be in the field of mails. # lt is thought by many Auckland people that the operation of an Auck land-Christchurcli air service would have a serious effect on the railways, particularly in the South Island. If each plane carried 10 passengers a day. it is estimated by these people that the railways would lose £30.000 a year in revenue, and perhaps more.
