Trams won easily, 7—o Manurewa beat Belmont. I —o. The second game at Bland ford Park finished in floodlight. with Celtic defeating Ponsonby, 3 —l.

THISTLE BEATS Y.M.C.A. The teams were: Y.M.C.A.—Holland. Mowat, Otter. Malcolm. Chapman. Clanachan. Humphreys. Woods. McAuslan Whaley. Thistle.—Gerrard, Ferguson. Hibbert. Rowat. McCosh. Hamilton. Gumming. Chalmers, Webb, Hislop. Kay. Referee: Mr. P. Dawson. Thistle was the first to show up. a left wins offensive ending in Kay ! sending past the post. Young Men Moke up after Hislop had skimmed the bar in a return attack. Clanachan j forced two corners and placed the sec- j ond one perfectly for McAuslan to j head on to the bar. The rebound was j hooked overhead cleverly by Humphreys for the first goal. Y.M. kept the pressure up, and Mowat sent through to Humphreys, i who broke through and crossed hard. Ferguson fluffed the clearance, the ball going to McAuslan with only the goalie to beat: Y.M. 2, Thistle V. Two early reverses roused Thistle j and the Scots took charge for a profitable ten minutes, which yielded three goals in quick succession. McCosh sent to Hislop, and Kay ran in to collect and slip past Mowat to score from close in. A renewed attack on Y.M.’s goal brought Hilliard out to go to earth to save brilliantly and recover well, only to be beaten by a high shot from Chalmers. The third goal came from a neat run and clean centre from Gumming, which Webb whanged past Hilliard. Y.M. fought hard to equalise. and Gerard was winded in a strong assault on Thistle’s goal before halftime was called with the scores: Thistle 3 Y.M.C.A 2 Play was lively »*n the restart. Y.M. attacking hotly but missing badly in front of goal, and Whaley went lame after a melee. Then Thistle took up the running, Kay forcing two corners and only great saving by Hilliard saved the situation. Weak finishing by Y.M. gave Thistle backs ample time to clear while the Young Men stood off, and Thistle ran down for Hilliard to save a hot one from Kay close in. A long pass by Otter relieved, and Whaley put a ground pass across Thistle’s gcal area with no one up to trap it. At the other end Kay cut through and brought Hilliard to his knees with a crashing drive, the goalie clearing under high pressure. Y.M. went away on the right from a long kick by Mowat and Humphreys forced a corner. Clanachan dropped the flag kick into the goal mouth. Gerrard palmed cut a shot from Riddolls, but Humphreys converted and equalised the score. Kxciting play followed, culminating in Kay bringing Hilliard to his knees to save a fast ground shot, and Kay in to trying and bundle the goalie into the net. Hilliard remained down, with Kay trying to lever him over the line. For some reason a throw down was ordered, when Hilliard recovered, and Y.M. cleared from the packed scrum in the goal mouth. Time was called with the score three all. . EXTRA TIME Kxtra time was ordered, and- Thistle took the offensive, Cummins, unmarked, cutting down the line and sending a high lob into goal, which came out for Hislop to slam hard to the net: Thistle 4, Y.M. 3. In the extra turn round Hilliard again saved cleverly, but Otter fouled Hislop, and Kay made no mistake with the corner kick. Finai: Thistle 5 Y.M.C.A 3 Ponsonby v. Celtic The teams were: Ponsonby.—Lyon, Lornie, Williams, J. Morrison, Dick, Balloch. Innes. A Morrison, Stewart, Wilson, Ward. Celtic.—McPhee. Harper, Whowell J. Grant, Wright, W. Grant. Gavan, Watts, Rimmer, Hunter, Simm. Referee, Mr. A. K. Parkinson. Ponsonby was the first to take the offensive and a long pass from Dick went on to Ward who cut in smartly and netted in the far corner. Ponsonby 1, Celtic 0. Ponsonby continued to press, Innes shining out in some sparkling dashes ! down the line and strong centres which I just missed. Play was quiet after the strenuous curtain-raiser, play being in Ponies’ favour, but McPhee was safe in Celtic goal. Celtic was putting up a poor game and Ponsonby's wild shooting spoilt several attacks, and then Simm fell foul of Lornie and lost his temper. The ex-Tram man also lost all further interest in the game as the referee ordered him off. Celtic replied with a brief attack, but Lyon saved well at close quarters. Half-time: Ponsonby 1 Celtic 0 Owing to extra time in the first knockout the light was failing badly in the second spell, and arrangements were made to provide the electric floodlights to finish the tie. Playing a man short and with the floodlights illuminating the area, Celtic set up some slashing attacks. Rimmer equalised from a penalty and Watts put them ahead with a ” good goal. Cheered on by the Scots present, the Celts kept up the pressure, Rimmer finishing the shock raids with a brilliant goal. Final: Celtic 3 ; Ponsonby 1 | Tramways v. Corinthians | The teams were: Corinthians.—Jamieson, Hilton. Tay- | loi, Kay, Harvey, Dawson. Aherne, Huston, Jones, Ansteed, Woods. Tramways.— Batty. Simpson, McElliott, Tinkler, Christie, Fyfie. Spong. Bell, Spencer, Williams, Stretton. Referee, Mr. J. Campbell. Tramways forced a corner, and Christie headed into Jamieson s hands, for the latter to fish out to Christie ; again, who scored with a strong ground ! Tramways passed again, and j vA llliams gathered a pass from Bell, j and, running through, scored, with Jamieson hopelessly beaten, j A quiet spell followed, but it was not long before Bell increased Tram- ; mies score with a high shot from a ■ scrimmage. a minute later [Williams

Manurewa raced down, and Lithgow stopped a forward rush, and sent upfield. Furness carried on. and sent to Allen, who forced a corner, which he placed very well for Furness to head over. Belmont kept it up, and Stewart put a pass out to Allen, who tested Parkes with a hot drive, which he cleared well. Belmont was having the best or matters, although Manurewa mad? spasmodic raids downfield. but thhard tackling of the Belmont back? was too disconcerting.
