EQUALS WORLD’S RECORD

A NEW master sprinter has come to the front in America in George Simpson, 22 - year - old junior of Ohio State University. At the 35th annual Penn Relay CarrVival, at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, Pa., on April 27, this flying Lochinvar equalled the wood’s record of 9 3-5 seconds, smashed the carnival record of 9 4-5 seconds made by the great Arthur Duffy of Georgetown 29 years ago, and led Ohio State to a record-ehattering triumph in the half-mile relay championship of the United States. It was a marvellous accomplishment, and as a result Simpson is assured of a place among track immortals alongside of Howard Drew, Dan Kelly, Charley Paddock, Chet Bowman and Cyril Coaffee, who are credited with the world’s record time.
