SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ASSOCIATION’S CONFERENCE MANY REMITS PROPOSED Another year of good progress is recorded in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland Primary School Committees’ Association, to be held on Wednesday, June A. total of 115 committees is now affiliated, this being an increase of nine over last year's total. During the year attendances at executive and general meetings of the association have been well maintained. Several remits of importance are to come up for discussion. One, from the Grey Lynn District School Committee is to the effect that “in view of the serious ill-effects of too frequent changes in the staffs of schools, and the unduly long time which too frequently elapses between the removal of a teacher and the arrival of his permanent successor, this association submits to the board that teachers intending to retire should be required to give three months’ notice of such intention.” Another remit concerns alleged excessive homework, and the -.horny question of evolution in the schools will be introduced by a remit from the Kereone Committee. This committee also protests against frequent and drastic changes in the books of the scholars of the primary schools, and holds the opinion that school children aro overburdened with books.
