OUT AND IN
There was some comment on the action of the stewards following the he* ing of an inquiry into the crossing of First Ruler by Fine Acre on the opening day at Otaki. The incident occurred in the fifth race, but following upon the inquiry opening, it was adjourned to permit Webster, the rider at fault, to fulfil his engagement in the succeeding race. Aft4' hearing evidence to the effect that the horse was inclined to bore inward, the stewards decided to stand Webster down for the remainder of the fixture, although he was allowed to fulfill an engagement in the concluding event. The matter did not end there, however, for, with judgment duly pronounced, the stewards met after the racing had concluded and amended their original decision, with the result that Webster was «ble to pilot two of his charges to victory on Monday and fill second berths on a like number of occasions.
