NEW CIVIC THEATRE
CITY COUNCIL GRANTS BUILDING PERMIT WORK PROCEEDS APACE The permit for the new Civic Theatre, which was temporarily withheld by the city building inspector, pending the furnishing of further constructional details, will be given today. THE architect, Mr. Charles BohrinA ger, who arrived from Sydney this week on oiie of his periodic visits in connection, with the work, discussed the theatre with the Works Committee of the City Council at its meeting yesterday. The committee gave its instructions for the immediate granting of the permit. Mr. J. Dempsey, chairman of the committee, said this morning that it was apparent the report made to the council on Thursday evening of a week ago had conveyed a wrong impression. “The report was loosely warded,” he said. Work on the building is proceeding apace and the activities of the workmen among the foundations and on the rapidly rising superstructure are providing a spectacle of absorbing interest. to people about the city. This morning the laborious job of sn.fting two massive girders, each weighing about four tons, occupied the energies of several men with jacks and crowbars.
