MT. ALBERT PROGRESS

NEW POSTAL FACILITIES A letter was received from Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P. for Koskill, at the meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening, stating that he had brought the proposals regarding post oiTices at Mount Albert and Edendale before the Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald. Mr. Munns said that he was convinced Mr. Donald’s reply was not the last word on the matter. The Mayor stated that he had certain private information which he could not divulge, and he was confident that some action would be taken. The building inspector reported that during the month ending May 31, 16 dwelling, 4 alteration, 16 motor-shed, and 11 addition permits, to a total value of £14.661) 19s had been issued. Mr. F. C. Marter, superintendent of the Mount Albert Fire Brigade, presented his annual report, stating that for the year ending May 10 the brigade had answered 6S calls. Twenty-two fires had caused damage to the extent of approximately £2,340. The Finance and Legal Committee stated that it had received a deputation from the Auckland Cricket Association and the Auckland Rugby League regarding one of the proposed sports grounds in the borough. The recommendation of the committee, that letters be sent to both bodies offering to secure the ground and sub-lease it to them jointly for an annual rental of £SO, was adopted by the council. The council decided that it was not prepared to undertake any liability in regard to the construction or maintenance of the area. The joint committee of the council reported that it had decided that the allocation of loan money for the current year be £IOO,OOO, jdlus £11,500 for parks and reserves. A donation of £lO was made to the Mount Albert Fire Brigade’s social fund.

Crs. Russell and Buckley were appointed to represent the council on the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association, without voting powers.
