TOWN-PLANNER NEEDED

PROBLEMS OF GREATER AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION’S OPINION The inclusion of Tamaki and Avondale in the Auckland metropolitan area has created problems for the City Council of such magnitude and importance as to warrant the appointment of a competent and qualified town-plan-ner. This is the opinion of the Auckland Town-Planning Association, expressed in the report to the annual meeting last evening. The association wants an officer free from control or interference from the engineering department, the salary to be not less than £1,200 annually. When the proposals were referred to Dr. Mawson, Director of Town-Plan-ning, he stated that it is the policy of local authorities to create a separate town-planning department and to appoint* a permanent officer responsible to the council rather than the engineer.
