INJURED BY BUCKET
WORKMAN CLAIMS DAMAGES After three days’ hearing, the claim of Francis John Hayes, a workman, against Walter Scott, a Mount Albert contractor, for A* 926 compensation for injuries, was concluded in the Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Kennedy today. Hayes was struck on the head w hile hauling cement by a bucket falling on his head during the construction of the Ambassadors Theatre at Point Chevalier. Mr. Leary appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Finlay for the defendant. The principal evidence for the defence was that of Walter Scott, defendant, who declared that a bucket could come into contact between 35 and 40 feet from the ground, but it would have to swing 7ft from the centre line to do so. He declared that the whole of the hauling gear was satisfactory to the scaffolding inspector. He denied that a double hook had been used on the gear, and he refuted the suggestion that the gear had been altered after the accident. (Proceeding.)
