V.R.C. GRAND NATIONALS The complete list of handicaps for the Victorian Grand Nationals are to hand by the last Australian mail, and they are reproduced here. GRAND NATIONAL HURDLE RACE Of £ls each, with £2,000 added; second, £400; third, £200: 3 miles. (Run Saturday, July 6.)
HIS REAL MISSION THE ASCOT GOLD CUP REIGH COUNT’S FORM The latest news in London sporting papers record a second poor showing by the American horse Reigh Count. He ran very badly in the Lingfield Handicap, but his owner, Mrs. J. D. Hertz, decided to start him again in the Newbury Spring Cup, a mile race. The American importation finished ninth at Newbury, and, in the vernacular, he was never in the hunt. The race was won by the Irish-bred horse Ashford. After the race “Chick” Lang, rider of Reigh Count, said that Reigh Count was 'just sulky and his trainer remarked that the horse wants a different course. Writers in the London “Sporting Life” refer to the excuses made, hut they are inclined to be generous pending developments before the Ascot Gold Cup, which race is fixed to be run on June ?0.
