Noud, horse trainer, of Ascot, claimed L 1,000 damages from Messrs. 11. A. Wolfe and J. J. Curlet, stewards? of the Brisbane Amateur Turf Club, for alleged wrongful scratching of Miss Kualma at Albion Park on February 9 and for alleged defamation. The statement of claim was that the horse was prevented from starting on the day of the race, on the ground that she appeared to be under the influence of dope. On being informed that the first prize in the race, for which the mare was not allowed to start was £ 68, his Honour suggested to counsel for plaintiff that ho would probably find some difficulty in supporting his claim. Having heard plaintiff’s evidence, his Honour asked counsel whether he thought it worth while continuing. Counsel: 1 think it is a case for the jury. His Honour: You will have a lot of trouble in getting it to the jury. However, we shall adjourn. Strephon’s Trainer

It will hearten the admirers of Strephon, who left Melbourne by the Limerick for England, to know that the colt will be trained by S. Darling, of Newmarket, whose establishment is recognised as one of the most formidable in the turf in England (says an Australian writer). A principal patron of the stable is the American millionaire, Mr. A. K. Macomber, for whom Darling has prepared Ballyvoy, winner of the Irish St. Leger. Forsetti (Cesarewitch), and Masked Marvel (Cambridgeshire). Included in his patrons last year were Uidv Chesham, M. Bousac, Mr. 11. S. Cray, Mr. H. Pulitzer, and Mr. H. G. Self ridge. At the end of last season Darling was 11th on the list of winning trainers with 36 wins worth £ 13,470 in stakes. There were 22 individual horses which contributed to the score. The previous year he had 29 wins,* his best performer being the French horse. Asterus. who caused a surprise by beating Colorado in the Champion Stakes. Asterus proved the form bv winning the Royal Hunt Cup. Tli© Hermit 11. was another horse to bring the trainer renown. A. Robertson, a brother of Lou Robertson, who has trained Strephon in Australia, accompanied the horse.
