ELECTRICITY WANTED
MEETING AT RUAWAI About 50 settlers were present at Ruawai on Saturday evening at a meeting convened by the Raupo Drainage Board to discuss electric-power for the district. The chairman, Mr. W. T. Hunt,, presided. Mr. J A. McLean, of Dargaville, chairman of the Hobson ElectricPower Board, gave a resume of the operations of the boat'd since its inception, leading up to the present stage, when petitions are in course of preparation asking for the enlargement of the boundaries of the power board area to include the Counties of Otamatea and Whangarei. Mr. McLean, in apologising for the absence of the board’s engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton, gave the details of the estimated costs of installation of electric-power on farms and houses. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates congratulated those present on the interest shown. “There are enough settlers present,” said Mr. Coates, “to ensure the completion of the petition arid the carrying of the loan proposals.” At the conclusion of a very interesting address, in which Mr. Coates emphasised the need for urgency in getting the petition signed and a power contract made with the Government, the following motion was carried: “That it be an instruction from the meeting to the members of the Otomatea County Council and the Hobson Electric-Power Board that every possible step be taken in order that electric-power will be supplied to North Auckland at the earliest reasonable opportunity.” The meeting carried a vote of thanks to Mr. J. A. McLean and Mr. Coates for being present.
