Debtor Should Have Paid From Winnings
MADE £BO AT RACES HORSE-TRAINER SUED (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. William Charles Woods, a horse trainer, of Te Rapa, stated in court this morning that he had had only two wins in 12 months, netting him £BO. He was sued by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company for £29 19s 7d. Under cross-examination debtor said the wins were those of Transformer at Te Kuiti and Takapuna. His share of the winnings was £BO, but he had £4O to pay for feed as well as the wages of a housekeeper and two boys. His weekly wage was £2 10s. A property at Te Rapa, which was heavily mortgaged, had been taken over. He had run Ruffles at the Auckland races on Saturday. The magistrate, said he was satisfied debtor should have settled out of the £SO, and an order for the payment of tho amount, with costs £1 11s Gd, was made, or in default 14 days’ hard labour.
