FARMERS ON TOUR

SOUTHERNERS AT ARAPUNI PARTY GOES TO ROTORUA (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Sunday. Yesterday the 300 Canterbury farmers who are visiting Hamilton for the show left by car for Arapuni, all arrangements being in the hands of the Show Association and a committee of citizens. They spent an hour at Cambridge, where more cars were commissioned, and after visiting the source of Auckland’s future electricpower went on to Putaruru, where most of the party joined the train for Rotorua. Business has received a distinct revival locally since the advent of the show. Although Hamilton is never slack nowadays retailers have boon working at top speed during the week while the larger firms have been inundated with orders. Most of the manufacturing firms will, oiT course, not receive the full benefit from the show until some weeks have elapsed, and the effect of extensive advertising is realised. A noticeable feature of the show is the bright appearance of the country folk. This doubtless is due to the improved outlook and the excellent season experienced. The farmers are optimistic, and their optimism is reflected in their appearance. Last night the side-showmen made a record turnover, a continual stream of people passing through the area off VVard Street, covered witli booths, tents and amusement devices.
