PLANNING THE CITY
ASSOCIATION LOOKS TO THE FUTURE The Auckland Town-Planning Association in its annual report endorses the policy of creating a special townplanning department, with a consultant or permanent officer responsible direct to the council, rather than to the city engineer. The association has also interested itself in the widening of the Great South Road, in view of future traffic needs. It is maintained that the cost of acquiring the necessary land will be much lower now than in years to come. Urging that Mission Bay, with its historic associations and delightful situation, will become one of the most interesting and attractive of Auckland’s marine suburbs, the association has suggested to the City Council that the district should be zoned, providing for defined shopping areas, and that shelter trees should be planted along the foreshore. The annual general meeting of the association will be held in the A gr\* cultural and Pastoral Society’s roompL Dalgety’s Buildings, at 8 p.na, fl* June 4.
