MARKET PROSPECTS BRIGHT (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, Today. Some important statements regarding the meat industry were made by Mr. J. Carr, a member of the Meat Board and chairman of the Ashburton County Council, to a Sun reporter during a visit to Hamilton. Mr. Carr said that, while the output of lambs had been increasing each year, shipments to London had been so regulated that there had been no surplus stock on the British market, and no shortage at any period. The advertising of New Zealand meat had been increased, and the board proposed spending £6,000 on publicity during the coming season. Mr. Carr added that experiments were progressing all the time in an endeavour to improve the bloom of lambs. Prospects for frocen mutton and lamb this year were particularly bright. FEILDING STOCK SALE Press Association FEILDING, Friday. At the Feilding stock sale today there were large yardings of sheep, both fat and stores. Fat sheep maintained late rates, although wethers were not utj to vendors' expectations.z Store lambs %old well, buyers showing a renewal of confidence. Dairy cattle were still keenly sought, fetching good prices. * Fat cattle were in small entry and of medium quality. Prices were:— Fat Sheep—Black-faced lambs, 2£s 9d to 29s Id: fat ewes, 22s 6d to 28s sd; fat two-tooths, 35s 6d; wethers, 32s Id to 34s 4d. Store Sheep—Breeding ewes, two and four-tooth, running with Romney ram, 26s to 295; five-year ewes, 16s lOd to 38s 6d; forward ewes, 18s sd; ewe lambs. 295; wether lambs, 17s 3d to 20s 4d. Dairy Cattle—Heifers in calf, to £l3 for best; others, £5 to £l2 10s; springing cows, £8 5s to £l4 10s.
