CUSTOMS AT CHRISTCHURCH Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The customs duties collected at Christchurch in May totalled £89,554. The figures for May, 1928, were £81,051, and for last month £89,491. Other figures are as follow:—Beer duty: May, 1929, £6,819; May, 1928, £7,763; last month, £8,843. Motor spirit tax: May, 1929, £18,684; May, 1928, £8,035:; last month, £11,348. Tyre-tax: May, 1929, £1,271; May, 1928, £573; last month, £1,787. FIGURES FOR DUNEDIN Press Association DUNEDIN, Friday. The following figures show the customs returns at Dunedin for May, the figures for the corresponding period last year being given in parentheses: Customs, £60,729 (£63,099); beer duty, £16,537 (£17,593); tyre-taxe, £704 (£1,708); motor spirit tax, £5,102 (£3,057). "Anxious" (Parnell): As far as we can see, there is little possibility of the company paying a dividend next year. R.G. (Mount Eden): We would advise you to see a broker. Shareholder (Otahuhu): The company went into liquidation during the latter part of 1927. "Banks" (Remuera): The principal reason for the increased strength of the market, as far as we can gauge, is the fact that it is held in some quarters that a further bonus issue of shares is due at an early date. There are quite good grounds for holding to this assumption.
