1921 - 1929

In 192 I a committee of experts finally decided in favour of Arapuni as source of supply and the contract for the construction of the dam and power house was let to Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth and Coy., in 1924, for a price of £1,175,652. The dam was completed in November, 1927, the power house construction being taken over by the Public Works Department. The first turbine ran on May 4, and the first section of the Arapuni transmission line was tested with Horahora power on May 8. Everything is now in readiness for the transmission of power from Arapuni to Auckland.
