February 1 0, 1 908, saw the opening of the first electrical power station in Auckland. it was the City Council's station at Freeman's Bay, used in conjunction with the destructor, and there were twelve connections. Further development occurred when the King’s Wharf Station was opened to cater for approximately 900 odd consumers on February 19, 1913. When the Power Board took office on April 1, 1922, there were 8,5 33 consumers and a maximum load of 6,900 k.w. Today there are 40,595 consumers and a sustained peak load of 28,1 10 k.w. In 1 922, I 2, 1 45,000 units were sold, and for the year ended March 31, 1929, 93,634,000.
