LOW RAINFALL
MAY BELOW AVERAGE AN UNSETTLED MONTH Several severe storms were experienced in Auckland last month, but the city did not suffer the full force. The worst of these was that which descended with such vigour in the Waitakeres on Alay 27, when a thunderstorm raged and hailstones of exceptional size descended. Altogether, May was an unsettled month, although the rainfall was .45in below the average. On the other hand, bright sunshine was above the average. Temperatures were normal and conditions were fairly mild until the end of the month, when some cold, crisp weather set in. The total rainfall for the month was 4.1 inches, as compared with the average fall for May of 4.55 inches. The mean maximum temperature during the month was 63 degrees, and the mean minimum temperature 51 degrees. The extreme maximum temperature was 67 degrees on May 7, and the extreme minimum temperature 42 degrees on Alay 28. There was a wide range in the barometric readings during the month, the highest being 30.5 sin yesterday, and the lowest 29.25 in, on Alay 15.
