ON BRINK OF CLIFF
PROMPT ACTION SAVES BIG SMASH MISHAP AT BAD BEND (From, Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI, Thursday. • service cars had a lucky escape this morning from going over a 500 ft cliff, when they met in a collision on the Opotiki-East Coast road. One car, driven by D. A. Cate, was travelling up-hill when another car, driven by J. Talbot, suddenly appeared round a bend. A collision appeared inevitable. To save his car going over the cliff Talbot ran his car into the other service car, which held the descending car by the front-wheel. Cate’s car was s?.rewed round, hitting the bank. The car, which was a closed model, had a side window broken, and the body was damaged. The steering-gear of the other car was also badly damaged. The drivers and passengers escaped unhurt.
