Smith, and her infant daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. I-I. G. Currie, had an unenviable experience in a thunderstorm while crossing the Hauraki Plains. Mr. Currie was driving, and when near Netherton a storm came up. A flash of lightning nearly blinded those in the front seat, while almost at the same time there was an explosion as a second flash struck the power lines. A blue flame shot up to a great height, and seemed to curl round the bonnet of the car. which immediately stopped, subsequent examination snowing that the electrical equipment had been burned out. The shock caused Mr. Currie to be thrown across the wheel, and he received internal injuries. Me was taken to Netherton, and is still suffering from his injuries.
