“DIGGERS” 1929 SHOW Obviously much original thoughth«s been expended on the producing of tV Diggers’ show for the 1929 season. i R material, costuming and stage -erects freshness has been the keynote. From the opening number to th a final curtain the show goes with merry swing. Sketches, musical lumbers. both classical and popular, and comedy, comprise a programme ric in variety and novelty.

Particularly interesting are the excerpts from popular musical eamedie--and comic opera of other days. Little Miss Hook of Holland. Peter Rood” from the “Arcadians,” the Mikado from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera of tha: name, dainty Rose Marie, the dame from “Mother Goose,” the Bambalina chorus from “Wildflower,” and other old favourites, delighted a large audience last evening. It was indeed refreshing link with the past.

The “Diggers’ Harmony Four.” an Hilda and Jessie Meadows provided delightful music, and Stan Lawson and Thelma Pittard, assisted by the balle. danced entertainingly. The historical feature, “The landing of Captain Cook,” also proved very popular.

Numerous sketches, a feature of fh» programme, were well received, particularly tho war-time sketch, “In Hospital,” in which Pat Hanna and Joe Valli score a big success. It is a well-balanced show and one that should prove a big success in Auckland.
