CLEVER LIGHTWEIGHT

PERCIVAL’S WINNING WAY If X. Percival keeps on as he is going he bids fair to outdo W. Duncan in popularity as a horseman, comments a Melbourne writer. In the last few months he has had a wonderfully successful run, and has taken full advantage of the opportunity given him when Duncan retired temporarily. Percival’s success in the Adelaide Cup recently adds another important event to his splendid record. Xext to the Newmarket Handicap, which he won on St. Ardent, it is the most important win for him this season. Could he have landed Kidaides winner of the Sydney Cup. for which that gelding started favourite, the jockey's cup of joy would have been filled to the brim.

At Warrnambool recently he rode a winning treble on Celtic Cross, Versatile and Viridis, and also landed a double on each of the two days of the Adelaide Cup meeting. His winning mounts since March 1 are: St. Ardent, in Newmarket Handicap; Caravena, Sandown Two-year-old; Jaberoo, Aspendale Maiden Plate; Malinche, Aspendale Welter: Cosy Rug, Glenhuntly Welter; Kidaides, Warwick Farm Autumn Cup: Caramant, Albury Maiden Plate; Viridis, Warrnambool Trial Handicap: Celtic Cross. Warrnambool Wangoom Handicap: Versatile. Warrnambool Tozel Welter: Lady Adelaide, South Australian Stakes: Parallana. S.A. Fisher Handicap: White Xose. S.A.J.C. Strathmore Handicap: Parallana. Adelaide Cup.

And quite possibly in between times he has slipped away to West Australia or Xorthern Queensland and ridden a few winners there.
