MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD PROSECUTIONS r busy day at papakura Active enforcement of the Motor Traffic Regulations was shown at the papakura Magistrate's Court this morning, when Mr. 12. 11. .Barrett, the inspector, recently appointed by the Main Highways Board, brought 16 charges against lorry and car drivers lor various breaches. Lorries travelling at speeds greater than those permitted under the regulations resulted in fines as follow: X. Reid, actual speed 35 miles (.speed permitted, 19.2 miles)* <l*2 and 10s costs; A. E. Cossey, 42 miles (16.8 miles). £3 and H>s costs; «. Morrow, between 30 and 40 miles (16.8 miles). £2 and 10s costs; K. R. Bryant, 35 miles (19.3 miles), and 10s costs; £5. E Steele, 37£ miles (22 miles). i;2 and ; o*s costs; Charles Grant, 38 miles, (19.2 miles), 1- and 10s costs; Henry Mannings. 37 miles (22 miles), AJ 2 and 10s (0 6ts; -R.. Anderson, 30 miles (16 miles), i- and 10s costs; L. G. Webley. 30 miles (16.8 miles), C2 an 10s costs. The inspector surprised the Court by stating that service cars on the Great -south Road were rated as lorries and were not entitled to travel at speeds greater than 22 and 24 miles an hour. e For overloading it lorry, R. 11. Mewas lined £2 and 12s costs. S. Morrow, who passed a car on the Hunua-Papakuru Road with a lorry laden .with road metal at a speed and in a manner which alarmed the occupants of the car and caused them to hastily pull up, was lined £3 and XI f °On*a similar charge, A. W. Grace, whose FpeOd was given as 42 miles an hour along the Great South Road, at i’apakura, on the wrong side, parallel io a stream of traffic from the Franklin races on May 11, was fined £2 and 10s costs. * fL H. McDowell was ordered to pay £1 and 10s costs for using a heavy lorry without a heavy traffic licence. Mr. S. D. Rice explained that McDowell had hired the lorry for a fortnight from the owner in Auckland, unoer the impression that it was licensed. The owner had since obtained a licence. For speeding on the Great feouth Hoad at Papakura, five motorists were proceeded against by the Papakura Town Board’s inspector, Mr. H. G. Bartels. The fines imposed were: A. Muscall. 34 miles, £1 and 10s costs; j Herring. 37 miles. Cl 10s and lOs costs; N. K. Brett, 37 miles, £1 10s 10a and 10s costs; W. 11. Rush, 37 miles across an intersection. £2 and lOs costs.
