SEVERE EARTHQUAKE. The seismographic instruments at the Perth Observatory between 0 and 10 •t m yesterday recorded severe earthquake shocks. Their origin probably was in Japan. 1T A GEN AN 1> COMPtiTON. — Hagen has replied to a message stating that the public would not accept a substitute for him in the matches aragainst Conipston at Moor Park on Friday and at Blackwell on Saturday. He has agreed to keep both engagements. —A. and N.Z.-P.A. GO AT. FIELDS DISTRESS. The final instalment of the British Government's grant of £ 569.000 (subsidy of pound for pound) toward the coalfields distress funds will shortly be received bv the central committee.
