TRAM EXTENSION
PT. CHEVALIER PLANS FORMAL PERMIT SECURED The Auckland Transport this morning approved plans of the Pt. Chevalier tram extension authorised in the recent poll of payersThe board will now apply to the Public Works Department for approval and for the obtaining of the Order-in-Council authorising the extension. Mr. E. H. Potter asked that a report be supplied in connection with the possibility of the elimination of centre tram-poles on extended routes. T think this matter should be taken into consideration at the earliest possible moment,” Mr. Potter said. The route to be followed begins at Surrey Crescent and traverses the Great North Road as far as the Point Chevalier Hall. From there the tracks will turn abruptly to the right and continue along Point Chevalier Road as far as the Dixieland reserve. The board’s engineer. Mr. V. E. De Guerrier. has prepared detailed plans showing double tracks for the whole distance of three miles five chains. When the rails are available the work will proceed.
