ROTARY RUN AT LOSS
IN NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA WORLD CONVENTION OPENS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 12.10 p.m. NEW YORK, Monday. Rotary in New Zealand aud Australia, as well as in tile United Stares and Canada, is largely running on a financial loss, for the expenses are greater than the income. This was revealed by Mr. R. B. Sutton, who, delivering his annual presidential message at the Rotary International Convention at Dallas (Texas), outlined the purposes and growth of Rotary. He stated that he believed suggestions for any form of administrative change were unwise, and insisted on American Rotarian ideals and methods not being' forced upon the members of other nationalities. He added that he had discovered a misunderstanding of the organisation in Italy, and felt called upon to clarify the doubts and misgivings which seemed to have risen In the minds of members of the Roman Catholic clergy in Europe, and take the opportunity to deplore and correct the impressions made by a few individuals and leading to the misunderstanding of Rotary. He found his critics not fully informed, and speaking through prejudice instead of reason. He stated that he had found few criticisms of his actions in Italy and other countries, in pointing out that Rotary was wholly international in spirit. He felt certain that before long understanding and friendly appreciation would replace misgivings and misunderstandings.
