MUSSOLINI’S SCHEME OF EDUCATION A JOB FOR THE STATE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Servicet Reed. 9.5 a.m. ROME, Sunday. In the Senate, Signor Mussolini declared that the State alone could give the requisite religious instruction to children, supplementing it -with disciplinary measures. “One must have regard for the realities of life. Those who maintain that the teaching of children is a matter solely of the family are saying something wholly inconsistent with the realities of life. “The modern family, engaged unceasingly in the struggle for its daily bread, could not teach anyone. Only the State could undertake the task."
Italy needed a virile, war like education. Having interests to defend every day, she could yield to the lure of universalism, which was understandable in people who had arrived, but was not permissible in people who had not arrived.
