MR. PERCY FREE HONOURED j The Athenian Club held its third meeting: of the 1929 season on Saturday, when the evening - was in the capable hands of Mr. and Mrs. David Middleton. It was the intention of the hosts to create the atmosphere of a “house party,” and in this .respect there can be no doubt that they brilliantly succeeded. “Harmony and Talent.” this club’s motto, was by no means departed from and from a suitably assembled stage, vocal, elocutionary and musical items were given during the evening. Dancing was indulged in. and a happy and congenial throng presented a brilliant spectacle. A multitude of coloured electric lights festooned the hall. The artists who contributed to the evening’s entertainment were: Mr. Stan. Pritchard (accompanied by Mrs. Pritchard), Miss Smeeton, Mrs. H. King. Mr. Alan McElwain, and by the courtesy of Mr. John Farrell, Mr. Clem Da we. Miss Iris Blewden was accompaniste. Representatives of the Philistines, Dunedin, Savage, and Orphans’ Clubs were present, and before the close a life membership badge was presented to Mr. Percy Free, the club’s energetic and popular past president. Others present were: Mrs. Wilfred Wright, who wore a cherry georgette frock with gold embroidery. Mrs. Munro Emanuel, in gold and cerise tissue. Mrs. Middleton, who wore silver tissue with sliver and black flouncing. Miss Laura Walker, wearing an orchid frock and blue embossed shawl. Miss Hazel Rainey, in pale pink and silver. Mrs. J. B. King, whose black lace frock was worn over blue crepe de chine. Mrs. P. Free, in a pompadour pink taffeta frock. Mrs. R. F. Wyatt, in a french gown of shell pink and black georgette. Mrs. F. Fawcett, wearing midnight blue satin. Mrs. P. T. Keane, in black ring velvet and diamante. BLACK OVER ROSE Mrs. D. Cornish, who wore black Spanish lace over rose georgette.Miss Beryl Smith, in an opal georgette frock. Mrs. H. Robinson. wearing apricot chenille georgette. Miss K. Marmont, in an apple green georgette and lace frock. Miss V. Jones, who wore rose pink georgette and a blue embroidered shawl. Miss K. Ball, in delphinium blue taffeta with pink georgette and silver. Miss Duldie Marmont, wedgewood blue charmeuse with silver flower. Mrs. Peter Dawson, nile green satin and silver lace. Mrs. L. A. Lincoln, in apricot shot taffeta, and posy to match. Mrs. R. V. Cooke, who wore a black georgette frock. Miss Winifred Cooke, in black ring velvet over apricot satin. Miss F. Coyte, whose sea green georgette frock was diamante trimmed. Miss M. Jones, in leaf green georgette and silver lace. Miss Teasdale, wearing foam green taffeta, and silver lace. Miss M. Montessen, black ninon and satin, with diamante trimming. Miss Cleary, in leaf green georgette. Mrs. W. Curtis, wearing oyster georgette, with oriental embroidery. Mrs. J. F. O’Connor, cerise georgette, embroidered in crystal. SILVER WRAP Mrs. G ilm our, silver lace and green georgette, with a silver wrap. Mrs. Woy, black georgette and rhinestones, and green flower. Mrs. Wise, delphinium blue and silver embroidery. Mrs. B. Kissin, cornflower blue georgette and silver iame. Miss Iris Blewden, blue taffeta and silver lace. Miss R. Perkin, floral satin, with blue bands. Mrs. R. Clarke Johnson, cerise georgette and gold relief, with black shawl. Miss Beryl Belthani, shell pink georgette and satin beaute bodice. Mrs. W. Paterson, black georgette, with panniers relieved with rhinestones. Mrs. P. Franchi, black frock with gold lace insets. Miss V. Fielder, sea green georgette. Miss X. Appleyard, mauve and amethyst beaded and sequined georgette. Mrs. P. Close, black georgette over pink shawl. Mrs. Richmond S. Brooke, powder blue georgette, with uneven hem. Mrs Stan. Pritchard, black velvet, embossed with silver and gold. Mrs. X. Xewdiclc, cream tulle and lace, with uneven hem and henna shawl. Mrs. Phil. Lewis, cerise and black french gown of georgette. IN BLACK LACE Miss Bidwell, black lace gown with uneven hem. Mrs. F. Tysoe, nile green and silver lace. Miss B. Seccombe. wedgewood blue taffeta and net. Miss C. Dickey, viola mauve georgette frock. Mrs. Geo. Stuart, black georgette frock. Madge Batterhain, white taffeta frock and shawl to tone. Mrs. M. Miller, white sati nand silver with Spanish shawl. Miss A. Budd, mauve georgette trimmed with silver lame. Mrs. B. Mason, powder blue crepe de chine frock and black shawl. Mrs. C. H. Dredge, midnight blue chiffon velvet and tulle. Miss B. K. Hicks, cherry georgette embossed cream uneven flare. Mrs. W. McKinney, pastel blue embroidered with silver sequins. Mrs. Gordon Lennol, sunflower georgette and gold shawl. Miss Xora Brodie, green period frock. Miss Myrtle Inskip, sequined georgette frock. GOLD VELVET Mrs. V. H. Trask, gown of gold ring velvet. Mrs. L. Lynne Barker, vieux rose taffeta frock. Miss Doris Hill, blue tulle over blue charmeuse. Mrs. G. H. Phillips, black georgette with black satin bow and diamante buckle. Marjorie Hings, cyclamen crepe de chine and batik shawl. Mrs. Percy Howden. black georgette with diamante trimming and oriental scarf. ’ Ida Walker, flame georgette and gold lace frock.
